Graphics All Around Us
Graphic design is everywhere, isn't it? You look at anything you own and there is probably a whole lot of creative people behind it. Graphic designers, photographers, copy writers, package designers, marketing managers, and maybe even a psychologist. Most everything we see from street signs to food at the grocery store has a designer playing a crucial role on how something is presented to us, the consumers.
Here is the point where I step into the picture. I identify myself as a graphic designer. Yes, it is true that there is a ton of gray area to being a graphic designer nowdays, but I really believe in a distinction between real graphic designers and those who are not. Anyone can go out and buy the latest graphic design software and call themselves graphic designers. Gradients and drop shadows on text are extremely simple to produce and some people may go ga-ga over such effects, since graphics are subjective in nature.
I'm always learning and improving my craft. When I see a logo that I find ingenious, I'm not just looking at it from an aesthetics point of view, but I'm also trying to figure out what programs were used to arrive at the final outcome. To be a real graphic designer is to truly love graphics, typography, art, photography, and everything else that goes into it.
